How to get more tradie jobs without begging for them

Word of mouth is great until it goes quiet. Every tradie hits a patch where the phone stops and the next job is not lined up. Here is how to keep the work coming in, without cold calling or dropping your price.

1. Show up on Google

When someone needs a sparkie or a chippy, they Google it. If you are not on the map results with a few good reviews, you do not exist. Set up your Google Business Profile, fill in every field, and keep it updated. It is free and it is the highest value hour you will spend on your business this year.

2. Ask for the review, every time

Happy customers will not review you unless you ask. Send the link by text straight after the job, while they are still pleased. Ten recent reviews beat fifty old ones.

3. Get a website that earns its keep

Your website does one job. It turns a looker into a caller. That means real photos of your work, the suburbs you cover, and a phone number you can tap. If your site does not do that, it is a cost, not a tool.

4. Your ute is a billboard

You park it in front of every job. Signage on the ute, a sign on the fence while you work, and a card or flyer for the neighbours. The house next door is your warmest lead.

5. Answer the phone

Sounds obvious. It is not. Most people call two or three tradies and give the job to the first one who picks up and sounds keen. If you cannot answer on the tools, call back within the hour. Speed wins jobs.

6. Quote fast, follow up once

Get the quote out within a day or two. Then follow up once, a few days later. Most tradies never follow up at all. One polite text wins jobs that were about to go elsewhere.

7. Stay in front of past customers

The easiest job to win is from someone who already trusts you. A post on your socials now and then, or a quick text before your busy season, reminds them you exist.
